Germany

From July 2004 until August 2005, I lived in Germany as an exchange student at the Universität Lüneburg. I decided to try to keep a blog of my entire duration living overseas.

In August 2004, I set off on a simple “city-bike” for 2 weeks by myself in northern Germany to explore the area and improve my German, which was at this point not very great at all. I set off for a bike tour which took me 850 miles / 1220 km through several states from Hamburg area to Berlin and then north towards Rostock and back down towards Schwerin. Some information from my bike tour is available online, however I never finished adding all the entries.

After my bike trip, I went to France to spend a couple weeks in southern France with my family from the US. It went by really fast, but I did get to see Paris for the first time and a little of southern France. It was beautiful.

From mid-February until mid-April 2005, I had the opportunity to backpack around Europe for 2 months in the dead of winter. It was a great experience where I met many wonderful people along the way. I hitch-hiked, took all sorts of public transportation, and was welcomed into the homes of many. I loved my experience and wouldn’t trade it for anything.
